白鳥神社は第５０代桓武天皇の延暦２０年（８０１）に坂上田村麻呂蝦夷平定に際し、日本武尊を鎮祭せる由緒深き神社であります。
旧社殿は嘉暦２年火災に罹りその後仮宮のままであったが、光格天皇の享保元年１０００年祭を執行するにあたり、現在の社殿造営に着手し３ヶ年の歳月をかけ享保３年（１８０３）に完成した。
安永６年書上げの白鳥村風土記に「往古東夷御誅伐之伝勅詔坂上田村麻呂将軍御下向之時伊澤郡鎮守ニワ伊澤八幡村江岩清水八幡宮を奉安置 当村江ハ日本武尊ノ大鳥之神社白鳥大明神ト奉崇敬依而村名白鳥村ト改メ白鳥射討事堅相禁申候」と記されて白鳥を射ることを固く禁じたと伝えられている。
大正２年白山姫命を鎮祭せる白山神社（白鳥合の沢鎮座）を合祀している。

Shiratori Shrine is a long-established shrine that can enshrine Nihonbuson during the 20th year (801) of the 50th Emperor Hirmu Emperor Sakaue Tamura Maro Ezo.
The old shrine was struck by a fire in the 2nd year of the calendar and remained a temporary palace after that, but in executing the 1000th year of the Kyoho year of Emperor Kokaku, it took three years to build the present shrine. It was completed in Kyoho 3rd year (1803).
The Shirotori Village Fudoki published in 6th year of Yasunaga states, “The ancient history of Tokuno Goryoku no Denki Densho Saka Uedamura Maro Shogun Tomoyuki Goshita is the guardian of Izawa-gun Niwa Izawa Hachiman-mura Eiwa Shimizu Hachimangu. Otorino Shrine Shiratori Daimeijin-to-Futaka Keiji-mura Name Shiratori-mura Tokai Swan Shooting Consciousness Prohibition Statement "is said to have been strictly prohibited from shooting the swan.

美しい本殿に誘われて寄ってみました。
紅葉が美しく、本殿の扉も開いていて御神体も直接拝めました。
お御籤も50円とリーズナブルになっております。
歴史も深くて、約1200年前に坂上田村麻呂によって創建されたといいます。
平安時代には三重塔もあったといいます。
どうしても近くの中尊寺とかが注目されますが、こういったローカルだけど歴史があって素晴らしい神社とかも皆さん訪れて欲しいです。
