本体は明治4年（1871年）、太鼓を鳴らして時を知らせる楼閣として建てられました。
辰の刻（7時から9時）の城主登城を、太鼓の音で知らせていたとも言われています。

Shinkoro is the oldest clock tower in Japan, located on the turret next to the former Sannomaru Otemon Gate of Izushi Castle.
The main body was built in 1871 as a tower that sounds a drum to inform the time.
It is said that the sound of drums was used to inform the lord of the castle at the time of the dragon (7:00 to 9:00).

廃城となった出石城三の丸大手門石垣を利用して1871年（明治4年）に建てられた高さ13メートル、内部が四階建て構造の鼓楼（太鼓を叩くやぐら）。
辰鼓楼が建設される以前は城下町の人々は寺院の鐘で時刻を知っていたようですが、それに代わる形で辰鼓楼の最上階から太鼓を鳴らすことで辰（時：とき）を告げ、出石城下の人々に時刻を知らせることとなっていったようです。
後に、城下町で開院していた池口忠恕医師の寄付によって1881年（明治14年）に大時計が取り付けられ、明治時代以降は時計台として市民のシンボルとなりました。これによって、辰鼓楼は札幌時計台と共に現在でも稼働している日本最古の時計台となっています。
出石の中心部に建てられた辰鼓楼は一際目を引くランドマーク的な存在であり、観光での散策の際に見ても楽しく、写真映えする好スポットですのでぜひ立ち寄ってみてください。

A 13-meter-high, four-story drum tower (a drum tower) built in 1871 (Meiji 4) using the abandoned Izushijo Sannomaru Otemon Ishigaki.
Before the construction of the Tatsukoro, the people of the castle town seemed to know the time from the bells of the temple, but instead, by ringing a drum from the top floor of the Tatsukoro, they announced the dragon (time: time) and went out. It seems that the people under Ishijo were informed of the time.
Later, a large clock was installed in 1881 (Meiji 14) with the donation of Dr. Tadashi Ikeguchi, who was open in the castle town, and since the Meiji era it has become a symbol of the citizens as a clock tower. As a result, Shinkoro is the oldest clock tower in Japan that is still in operation along with the Sapporo Clock Tower.

札幌時計台の稼働開始は8月12日と分かっていたものの、こちらは長らく稼働開始日が不明とされていた(あえて不明として調べなかった感も？)。
140周年を機にした調査で、元出石城内にあった弘道(小)学校の校長室の金庫から明治14年の日誌が発見され、そこに9月8日落成&報鼓と書かれていたことで、非常に残念なことに最古から2位となってしまった。
しかし、この美しさと歴史的価値、古い出石の街並みとの調和を含めた地域のシンボルとしての存在意義は、この1ケ月の違いで失われるものでは無い。
The Sapporo Clock Tower and the Tatsukoro here were also in operation in 1887, and these two were considered to be the oldest existing clock towers in Japan.
Although it was known that the Sapporo Clock Tower would start operation on August 12, it was said that the operation start date was unknown for a long time (maybe you didn't check it because it was unknown?).
In a survey on the occasion of the 140th anniversary, a diary of the 14th year of the Meiji era was found in the safe of the principal's room of the Hiromichi (elementary school) school in the former Izushi castle, and it was written on September 8th that it was completed & rewarded. So, unfortunately, it has been ranked second since the oldest.
However, the significance of its existence as a symbol of the region, including its beauty, historical value, and harmony with the old Izushi cityscape, is not lost in the last month.

本体は、明治4年、太鼓を鳴らして時を知らせる櫓台として建てられたそうです。
辰の刻(7時から9時)の城主登場を太鼓の音で知らせていたとも言われています。
現在の時計台の姿になったのは、明治14年のこと。
城下町で開業していた医師 池口忠恕(いけぐちちゅうじょ)が大病を患った際、多くの人々が病気快癒の願掛けをしたそうです。
池口さんは、そのお礼として、私費でオランダ製の機械式大時計を取り寄せて寄贈。
寄贈にあたり、町の青年2人を東京に派遣して、時計作りやメンテナンスの技術を学ばせたとも伝わるそうです。

Japan's oldest clock tower that ticks from the Meiji era
Shinkoro is the oldest clock tower in Japan located on the Yaguradai, which is located on the side of the former Sannomaru Otemon Gate of Izushi Castle.
The main body is said to have been built in the 4th year of the Meiji era as a turret that rings a drum to inform the time.
It is said that the sound of a drum was used to inform the appearance of the castle owner at the time of the dragon (7 to 9 o'clock).
The current clock tower was in the 14th year of the Meiji era.
When a doctor, Tadashi Ikeguchi, who had been practicing in a castle town, suffered a major illness, many people prayed for healing from the illness.
As a thank-you gift, Mr. Ikeguchi ordered and donated a mechanical watch made in the Netherlands at his own expense.
It is said that two young people from the town were dispatched to Tokyo to learn the techniques of watchmaking and maintenance for the donation.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 日本で2番目の歴史がある時計台です。北海道札幌市の時計台の方が1ヶ月？ぐらい古いそうです。2021年に兵庫県豊岡市出石町の小学校で日誌が発見されてそこに詳しい時計台設置の日付が記録されていて確定しました。それまではどちらもうちこそ日本で一番最初に設置された時計台やと論争してました。出石側は本来自分達に不利な資料が見つかったのに自分達から公表した対応は素晴らしいですね
It is the second oldest clock tower in Japan. Is the clock tower in Sapporo, Hokkaido one month? It seems to be about old. 廃城となった出石城三の丸大手門石垣を利用して、明治四年(一八七一)に建設された。名称の「辰」は時間、「鼓楼」は太鼓を叩くやぐらを意味する。高さ約一三m。内部は四階建の構造。かつて城下町の人々は寺院の鐘で時刻を知ったが、明治時代に入り、これに替わるものとして竣工した。
当初は最上階から太鼓を鳴らして時刻を知らせていたが、明治一四年(一八八一)にこの城下町で開院していた医師、池口忠恕が大時計を寄附してからは時計台となった。
池口は大時計を寄贈するにあたり、青年二人を東京(一説には長崎)に派遣して、時計作りの研修・製作をさせたといわれる(現在の時計は電気式)。同じ明治一四年に時計が設置された札幌時計台とともに、
日本最古の時計台として親しまれている。
