景行天皇25年（95）武内宿祢大命を蒙り東国の風土民風を巡察の際、当山に初めて浮宝の祖神を鎮祭せられ東奥の為にも祈請ありし社なりと伝えられ、其後貞観12年（870）社殿改築に当り氏子協議の上当社の神霊を播州明石広峯神社に請いて鎮奉るという。又、往古日本武尊東征の時武内宿祢の奏言によって当社に参拝し、特に夷賊鎮定祈願の為、厳瓮及甕等の器を大伴武以将軍等と共に製作ありて懇に祀らせ給い（其砌堀り給うたと伝える霊池も境内の内にある）東夷平定後当社の神徳を崇める余り武以将軍に命じ其の血族の者を留め永く当社に奉仕せしめ給うたと伝える。旧称牛頭天王社、明治3年現社号に改め、同5年2月村社格加列、同40年3月供進社に指定された。境内社の白鷺神社は長徳元年（995）の勧請と伝えられ、雷神社、足名推･手名推･祖霊社の数社並び立つ。

Shirakaba Shrine of Sakainai Shrine is said to be a solicitation in the first year of Chokutoku (995), and there are several companies, such as Raijin Shrine, Ashina Tsuji / Hina Sugi Shrine and Sorei Shrine.
