From the first impression it looks like a sweat little familiar sushi restaurant. Sushi was OK but not excellent. Also the slices were more or less small compared to other sushi restaurants and therefore quite expensive. The second time we went there they served us some appetizers we didn't order but had to pay in the end. No water were served. The owners do not really speak English but nevertheless ask several times to write a review what we did herewith. :-) So the impression in the end was that it is an only tourist oriented and for the quality bit to expansive restaurant.

This was one of the best sushi restaurants in Japan. Ran by a really nice couple. The menu was simple and the fish was delicious. I went with the chef's recommendation on sashimi and ordered one of every nigiri! Can't go wrong here. Very fair pricing as well.

I can't add much more than the other reviewers on this one. I visited on the strength of the reviews from other foreigners visits, and I can say my experience was consistent. On my visit I was a lone American tourist. There were some moments of awkwardness because of my lack of Japanese language skills, but both the chef and the hostess seemed like genuinely caring and helpful people. I lucked out that there was a Japanese gentleman at the bar area who not only spoke English, but had also visited my home town twice. I'm not saying a translator is necessary, but being from a town on the Gulf Coast and loving seafood and everything, it seemed like he helped communicate why I valued my dinner and experience meeting them. So this was the perfect Japan sushi experience for me. A slow paced, laid back, family owned restaurant with a local clientele who welcomed me into their space. The fish was fresh. The beer was cold. I got to have an evening sitting and talking with some cool people. Please visit this place if you are in Kyoto.

My favorite sushi restaurant in Japan. The chef has over 40 years experience! They are a great couple, very welcoming and a great dining experience.

It looms like a family place but definitely it does not deserve to be at top 200 restaurant shops in kyoto. I got no idea who wrote these reviews. Sushi is very mediocre. Not bad but far from super good. Toro was not a toro. Ika was chewy. Uni was deceiving. Only the basic sushis were good, yet very small. Sake size was super small as well. On the good size owners aee super friebdly and funny. But they either serve bad sushi for foreigners or i dont get it... definitely skippable. Paid 4.000 yen per person and ate okayish.

Absolutely delicious. A completely lovely experience. The sushi is delicious, and handmade with a passion and dedication for the art. His wife is hostess/waitress, everything. Her English is pretty good and there is an English menu. Remove your shoes at the door, enjoy the comfy traditional horigotatsu seating (recess under the table for legs/feet), and be sure to order a glass of their Kyoto local umeshu on the rocks. Super refreshing and the best I've had yet. The sushi was so good that we forgot to take a picture of the first plate at all and only remembered to take a picture of the second plate when we were nearly done eating! Definitely try the otoro (fatty tuna) and if you like unagi (or even dislike it for being too strong), make sure to order some anago. It's lighter in flavor than unagi and delicious. There is limited seating; about 16 seats. One private room of 6, a table of 4 in the main room, and about 6 seats at the bar. You could probably squish more at the table ends if you needed to. Totally delicious and exceptional service. They even both walk exiting customers to the door to thank you and give well wishes.
