Expensive tickets for just a few tea cups. Granted, they are from the same artisan house for 14 generations, and the cups are all very well presented with excellent English explanations. However, on the quality of the pieces themselves I have a LOT more reservations. I find them all too ugly and way too unwieldy for the tea ceremony. I find their boasting of the stylistic link with tea master Rikyu somewhat disturbing. For some MUCH better and polished samples, go to the Gallery of Kyoto Traditional Arts & Crafts where students and their teachers display their works (like tea cups), and the marvelous Kyoto Museum of Traditional Crafts (Fureaikan).

Quite expensive considering the small collection on display ¥1000 yen for about 45 works. Admittedly some nice works but there's other more reasonable museums in Kyoto

It's a small museum in a nice old house. The exhibition on view didn't touch my soul. The entrance fee is 1000 Yen for not very much to see.

Excellent if you have a deeper understanding of Raku and the underlying philosophy. The works displayed are characteristic of the times during which they were made and are enriched with beautiful and imaginative descriptions.

We stumbled upon this place by accident and it turned out to be quite fascinating. I enjoyed following the history and looking at the old raku ware through the ages. I personally really enjoy pottery, ceramics, etc., so unless you're a fan you might not enjoy this museum as much as I did.

We saw the full tea bowl exhibition (summer 2019) and it was beautifully presented. The information on both the info cards in the display cases, as well as the walk-around tablet guides, were helpful and made for some beautifully evocative reading. Not a long trip but definitely worth it!
