Kitamura Museum - Kyoto

I saw an exhibition of assorted specialties. It's a small museum, but it's quiet and you can take a closer look.

The former residence of Shojiro Kitamura, "Shikimikoen," is located in the east of Imadegawa, Kawaramachi, Kamigyo-ku, Kyoto, and faces the Kamogawa River, with the capital letter of Nyoigatake in front of it. This area is also the place where the imperial family and the regents competed to run villas for a long time. Sanjiro Kitamura, who was said to be a scholar of the Showa era, became familiar with the tea ceremony under the influence of his parents, refined his aesthetic eyes by collecting works of art, and built a residence that could be called a crystal of his own aesthetic sense. The building is divided into a tea room and a main building. The tea room (Chinsanren) was designed by Sukiya Kitamura, the builder of Kyo Sukiya. Since the main building was requisitioned and remodeled by the post-war expeditionary force, it was built in 1963 with the design of Isoya Yoshida, and the garden was changed to its current appearance by Esshu. The name of the four princes is derived from the Chinese custom of praising the noble chrysanthemums, the rigid bamboo, the clear plum blossoms, and the fragrance of orchids. It is said that he named himself with the hope that if the acronyms of chrysanthemum, bamboo, plum, and orchid are connected, it will become "Kitamura" and that it will be dignified. The Kitamura Bunka Foundation was established in 1975 to preserve the collection of Kyojiro Kitamura (1904-1991), a businessman and tea man, and the museum was established in 1977. Opened. The collection includes 33 national important cultural properties. The Kitamura family is an old family who has been doing forestry for generations in Yoshino, Nara Prefecture. Kitamura worked hard to collect tea ceremony and art works for the couple while running a family forestry business. Due to the nature of the tea collection, there are many famous tea utensils such as teacups. In addition, masterpieces are available for paintings and old pens selected by Kitamura, who was an outstanding tea man. These hanging shafts will also fall into the category of “tea utensils” in a broad sense, chosen with the intention of hanging them on the tea seat floor. The adjoining tea ceremony and tea room (former Kitamura House), called the “Shikiko-an”, is a masterpiece of Showa Sukiya with the greenery of Higashiyama as a borrowed landscape and is open to the public for a certain period in spring and autumn. In the garden, there are two stone lanterns designated as important cultural properties of the country, and one stone tower (Taobao Tower).

I visited the limited release of the Four Gentlemen Garden. It was really wonderful to sigh. This is a must-see especially for those who make tea.
