『米沢の神社・堂宮6　－山上地区－』より創立沿革は不詳で、板谷地区の鎮守として祭られてきた。板谷街道が繁栄していたころには、通行人による参詣もよく見られた。場所は分かりにくいのだが、民宿あさひやさんを目印に、建物のすぐ左手に道が伸びており進むと神社がある。境内には嘉永年間(19世紀)を中心に建立された数多くの石塔が建ち並んでおり、ほかに狛犬や石仏、石祠などの石造物で埋め尽くされている。中でも石鳥居はとりわけて古く、寶暦四年(1754)の紀年銘が読み取れる。そのため、少なくともこの地で250年以上の信仰があったことが窺われる。私自身が確認できた石塔を紀年銘と共に記載する。・庚申塔　(明治二十二年) ・飯豊山・聖徳太子・湯殿山　(嘉永年間) ・金毘羅大権現・水神・湯殿山・天照太神宮　(嘉永年間) ・金花山　(嘉永年間) ・秋葉山写真撮影月　令和2年9月

From "Yonezawa Shrine, Domiya 6-Yamagami District-" The history of its founding is unknown, and it has been worshiped as a guardian of the Itaya district. When the Itaya Highway was prosperous, it was common for passers-by to visit. The location is difficult to understand, but with Asahiya-san as a landmark, the road extends to the immediate left of the building and you will find a shrine. Many stone towers built around the Kaei era (19th century) are lined up in the precincts, and are also filled with stone structures such as guardian dogs, stone Buddha statues, and stone shrines. Among them, the stone torii is especially old, and the chronogram of the 4th year of the Horeki (1754) can be read. Therefore, it can be seen that there was at least 250 years of worship here.
