天平神護元年(765)、イザナギ・イザナミの二神を勧請して梓宮となる。延暦二年(783)には出雲大社のオオクニヌシを勧請して大社と称した。付近は水源地であったことから、近郷17村の総鎮守であった。嘉永二年(1849)には正一位を授けられ、明治期に村社、のち郷社に列せられた。棟札によると現在の本殿は、文政七年(1824)に再建されたものである。
また、境内には皇大神社が併殿される。
国道13号沿いに社号石が建っているため、それを目印に侵入すると辿り着く。神社奥が公民館なので、参拝の際はそちらの駐車場に車を停めるとよいかと。境内には明治期の巳己塔や文化年間の大黒天塔、新羅型の石を用いた琵琶塔などの石造物が建立されている。

From "Yonezawa Shrine, Domiya 1-Mansei District-"
In the first year of Tenpyo-jingo (765), the two gods Izanagi and Izanami were solicited to become Azusamiya. In the second year of the Enryaku calendar (783), Izumo Taisha's Okuninushi was solicited and called the Taisha. Since the area was a water source, it was the total guardian of 17 nearby villages. In 1849, he was awarded the first rank, and was listed in the village shrine and later the village shrine in the Meiji era. According to the building tag, the current main shrine was rebuilt in 1824.
In addition, the Imperial Grand Shrine will be built in the precincts.
There is a company name stone along National Route 13, so if you invade the landmark, you will reach it. The back of the shrine is a public hall, so when you visit, you should park your car in that parking lot. In the precincts, stone structures such as the Mimi Tower in the Meiji era, the Daikokuten Tower in the Cultural Year, and the Biwa Tower using Silla-shaped stones are erected.
