★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 御茶ノ水駅から徒歩で5~6分要す。元々、高台の駿河台とその下の猿楽町の間には崖があり、そこを繋ぐ通路を二本造り西側にある坂道が女坂で、こちらは急勾配であるので男坂と付けたらしい。歩いてみると段数は73段しか無いが気を使う。

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 都心の急な階段坂です。神社の参道によく見られる男坂と女坂はセットでつくられることがほとんどで、直線的で急な階段を男坂、緩やかで男坂にくらべれば上り下りしやすい階段を女坂と名付けられています。今風に云えば女坂はバリアフリーを少し意識したつくりなんでしょう。
近くにほんの少し緩やかな女坂がセットでこの地にありますが、神社仏閣とは無縁で関東大震災の復興事業の一環の区画整理として崖で分断され、通行できなかった台地と低地の利便性向上を狙って作られたようです。
