信号場としての開業は大正6年 1917年。
駅としての開業は昭和28年 1953年。
無人駅。
私が訪れた時間が偶々そうだったのかもしれないが、
30分弱の滞在時間中人の姿を全く見なかった。
駅前の道を車がたまに通っていくが、
駅利用をする人は少ないと言う印象を受けた。
駐車場あり。

1番線と2番線は階段の跨線橋で連絡されており、車椅子の方の行き来は困難です。
山陽本線の広島エリアでは珍しい無人駅で、自動改札機はあるものの入場専用で、出場の際は切符は集札箱に入れる形式となっております。(ICカードには入・出場どちらとも対応)
電光掲示板はありません。
ホームの両端の先にすぐカーブがあり、カーブを走り抜ける車両の撮影に適しています。
広島方面から来た電車を、三原方面のホームの先端から撮影すると良い感じに撮れます。(広島方面のホームは、架線柱や住宅が邪魔で撮影には不向き)
