★ ★ ★ ★ ★ You can buy used kimonos here from ¥3240! They're not very bad kimonos but cleaned and not torn, etc. Certainly cheaper than renting one for the day which are also used. Might as well buy your own. Add in the sash (from ¥2000 onwards), coat (¥3240) and maybe their clogs or your own shoes.
There's a fashion show at 2pm too each day on the 3rd floor.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This place is super old and hasn’t modernized itself into an attractive complex. However, they do offer free kimono shows every day, where you can watch models parade around in gorgeous kimonos. And they sell a variety of goods. Also, this place is a very historic place. Too bad they haven’t modernized. If so, they would become a major attraction in kyoto.
For an event with a Japanese Company, I got my hair done here and they dressed me in an elegant kimono.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Nice tidy shop with unique souvenirs, live textile making on old machinery and even a small museum for free. Free as well is the ~10 minute Kimono Show on the 3rd floor, which was pretty interesting and a nice resting spot on our way to Kinkakuji. No photos allowed in the shop but during the show.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ If you happen to be in the area then definitely worth dropping by. The museum is quite small and looking a bit tired in places, but it is genuinely interesting and the staff are all very pleasant.
However, to be honest it does (as others have said) feel like a tourist trap of the "Packaged tour day excursion" type that you get a lot in Spain and Turkey. It's mostly a huge shop with a mixture of some really lovely items and a lot of bog standard souvenirs which you can pick up just about anywhere. Unless you have a LARGE budget don't bother buying yukata here - there are much better quality ones for a lot less elsewhere.
We made a special effort to go and see it (it's not especially easy to get to) but in all honesty it was a bit disappointing especially for my wife who has a textile background and was expecting a much more "interactive" experience. We honestly thought we'd see people weaving and perhaps have a go but there were only static exhibits and strictly no touching/photos.
Pity really. It feels like it could be so much better.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The only thing I really like here is the 10-minute kimono show. It can get quite crowded due to tourist groups so try to come 15 minutes before the show starts. I think there are 5-6 shows per day scheduled per hour.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Souvenirs were as excellent as the display, and all free. Kimonos and excellent fabrics abound. Lots of little items for sale, trinkets, handbags, tenegui, etc. Check the display photos. They also have a kimono show on the hour, I missed it but check the other reviews.
