★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 中山宿では、鳴子村の初代肝入、遊佐氏六代平八郎宣重やなどが大きく貢献した。名関守と慕われた遊佐平左衛門は、対岸の台地・南原の開墾のため、東遠鈴沢から732間（1,331m）の穴堰を掘り、万治2年（1663）、約19年の歳月を要して、引水に成功した。幕末になってこの徳を偲び、天保10年（1839）、遊佐甚之亟などによって碑を建て神として祀った。また、同じ頃、岩淵大明神の碑も建てられ、現在は「遊佐大神碑」と「岩淵大明神碑」が並んで建っている。
