神護景雲二年（768）二月創立の古社です。
天承二年（1132）領主佐野修理太夫宗綱社司に命じ領内五穀成就を祈りました。
昭和十三年（1938）四月二十九日に神社並びに社木老樹を焼失、翌年に再建しました。

天平神護年間（765～767）、勝道上人は横根山を霊場に仕立て、神護景雲年間（767～770）には、中粕尾布施谷の五柱稲荷神社・遠木の谷倉神社が創建されました。
以来、この山地より日光男体山に至る順路は、修験者たちが峰修行の通路としていたと考えられます。
粕尾をはじめとした集落は、修験者の登拝地、ないし修験者へ布施を与える接待所という、日光修験にとっての重要拠点となっていました。

It is an old shrine founded in February of the second year of Jingo Keiun (768).
In the second year of Tensho (1132), I ordered the lord Sano Repair Tayu Sotsuna Shrine and prayed for the fulfillment of the five grains in the territory.
The shrine and old shrine trees were burnt down on April 29, 1938, and rebuilt the following year.

During the Tenpyo-jingo era (765-767), Shodo Shonin made Mt. Yokone a sacred place, and during the Jingo-keiun era (767-770), the five pillars of Inari Shrine and Toki Tanikura Shrine in Nakakasuo Fuseya were built. I did.
Since then, it is probable that the route from this mountain area to Mt. Nantai was used by the trainees as a passage for the peak training.
The villages such as Kasuo have become important bases for the Nikko Shugen, such as the place of worship for the trainees and the entertainment center where the trainees are given a donation.
