The place name of Nishijin comes from the fact that the Nishijin camp was laid during the Onin War. In the Heian period, Tsukasa Oribe was placed in this area, and in the Middle Ages, the Oshajinza, which follows that trend, was involved in the machine industry. The weaver was temporarily evacuated due to the Onin War, but it was reconstructed again after the turbulence. Since the early modern period, it has become the center of Japan's leading luxury textile industry as a production center for Nishijin weaving, and continues to this day. The area surrounded by Horikawa-dori in the east, Shichihonmatsu-dori in the west, Imamiya Shrine Gojo in the north, and Ichijo-dori or Nakadachiuri-dori in the south is called Nishijin. This stone mark marks the origin of Nishijin. There is also a copy of this on the southeast corner of the Nishijin Textile Center on Horikawa-dori Imadegawa.
