It is neatly arranged, and there is nothing bad about surroundings, so the arrangement of the cathedral is obvious. Compared to the old map, it is also near the branch of Nakasendo and Mino Road, so if you look at it you think that it is the Fort of Foreigners and the backward support of Kofu. It is such a wonderful territory.

Outside is the best for walking as there are few cars coming If there is no grass inside, you can enjoy cherry blossoms, brushstrokes in the spring, weeds in the summer, walks in the autumn, and pine cones in the winter with the children. As there is no electric wire, you can see the parents enjoying the kite flying. However, because the drainage is bad, it is better not to enter for several days if it rains. Also, you can get plenty of moss. I will slide. Pokestop is also increasing.

A place where you can feel the history. I think it is better to look at the museum first.

It has been excavated and maintained in a beautiful state, and you can think of it in the olden days. There is nothing to block the direct sunlight, so please be careful when visiting in the middle of summer.

Large, quiet and great for thinking. It's best to lie down on a stone and see the blue sky (pictured).

The ruins of Mino Kokubunji. The construction is unknown. It is believed that it was built around the time of the construction of Kokubunji Temple in Tenpyo 13 (741). Archaeological excavations estimate that the main tower was completed in the 750s. In addition, the ruins of the temples of the Hakuho period, which preceded Mino Kokubunji, were found to overlap, and it is known that Kokubunji was built following the predecessor temple (or the temple of a local lord). As a similar Hakuho temple, in the Fuwa-gun area, the ruins of Miyadokoji and Miyashiro abandoned temples are also recognized in the south of Kokubunji. In addition, in the temple biography of the successor temple, Kinginzan Kokubunji, Gyoki, who worshiped Emperor Shomu's royal palace in Tenpyo 9 (737), arrived here and carved a statue of Yakushi Nyorai himself to make it the principal image and Shichido garan. It is said that it was built and the temple was opened. The content of the tradition is not detailed, and as will be described later, the statue of Yakushi Nyorai is said to have been made around the Heian period in later generations. In the 2nd year of Tenpyo-jingo (766), it seems that "Kokubun Niji" is similar to the contents ordered by Ise and Mino provinces when the number of official residence repairs is heard. In the 4th year of Jingo Keiun (770), Yuman, a small territory of Katagata District, Mino Province, was promoted by donating 20,000 bundles of private rice to Kokubunji. In Houki 6 (in 775, there was an abnormal wind and rain in Ise, Owari, and Mino provinces, and it seems that damage such as the collapse of Kokubunji and various temple towers 19 occurred. In the 3rd year of Ninna (887), it was completely destroyed by a fire, and its function was transferred to the fixed-price Nanji Temple in Mushiroda-gun [4] [1] [5] [3]. Subsequent reconstruction is not allowed in the literature, but archaeological excavations allow reconstruction here in the first half-mid-10th century. According to the main tax provisions of the "Engi-shiki", which was established for 5 years (927), 40,000 bundles of rice are allocated as the Kokubunji fee for Mino Province. In the first year of Kanko (1004), the official declaration ordered the dispatch of Tadakuni Sakamoto and others to investigate the damage to the temple towers of Mino Kokubunji, and the existence of the temple towers was recognized at that time (to the reconstruction Kokubunji Temple). Dispatch). In the second year of Chogen (1029), a messenger was sent. In addition, there is a theory that the statue of Yakushi Nyorai, which is the principal image of the current gold and silver mine Kokubunji and is believed to have been made around the 11th century, was originally the principal image of the reconstructed Kokubunji, and many ash glaze pottery from the 11th century was detected in the temple ruins. The temples at that time are suggested. However, it is presumed that it declined by the end of the 12th century and lost its function as Kokubunji.

Very peaceful, wide-open environment with lots of bugs and birdsong. The nearby new Kokubunji temple is worth visiting. Would have liked to visit the associated museum, but it was closed. The ruins are very simple (more impressive for the space than the stones), and have some placards. They would probably only be interested to local history buffs or people who like ruins in general (of which I’m both!). Limited English signage. My travel companion, who is decidedly not a history buff, was bored stiff.
