A reservation is required at least two weeks in advance, but it is worth seeing. Higashiyama looking at the window frame in the picture frame was the best.

Rai Sanyo built and settled in Mizunishi-so in 1822, and spent his last years in the annex, Shosaiyama Shimizumeisho, which was built in 1828. It is said that it was named Sanshisuimeisho because it has a good view overlooking the 36 peaks of Higashiyama across the Kamo River.

It was designated as a historic site by the Historical Sites, Places of Interest Natural Memorial Preservation Law in 1918, and is now a nationally designated historic site as "Rai Sanyo Study (Sanshimizumeisho)". Looking upstream from the western end of the Log Town Bridge, there is a small thatched-roof building between the private houses. This is Rai Sanyo (1780-1832), a well-known Confucian scholar at the end of the Tokugawa shogunate, who used to study in his later years. Sanyo left Hiroshima for Kyoto in 1811 and opened a cram school. In 1822, he built Mizunishiso in Sanbongi, west of Kamogawa, and settled there. In the 11th year of Bunsei, he built Sanshimizu Akira, where he completed "Nihon Seiki" and spent five years until he died. Sanyo, who did not like matcha, is building it as a detached house that does not look like a tea room. While using poor pillars with red pine bark and knots, elaborate designs and expensive forest materials are used in the details to reflect Sanyo's taste. The economic power of Sanyo's later years is also reflected, such as arranging palms on the ceiling, using water-resistant chestnuts for the handrails on the veranda, attaching bamboo ropes to the walls and waist of the shoji to improve ventilation, and fitting glass to the shoji. And it seems. The room consists of a main room of 4 and a half tatami mats and a board of about half a tsubo between the 2 tatami mats, and there is a veranda along the Kamo River. There is a top bag and a shelf next to the alcove, and when you open the Amiyo door of the ground window under it, a cool breeze enters, and in winter, the shutter is closed to prevent chills. Sanyo indulged in his writings and poetry, and invited his friends to entertain him with sencha and Kenbishi Sake Brewery. This gem-like small hermitage is designated as a national historic site as a valuable cultural property to know the tastes of writers at the end of the Edo period. (Kyoto City) It is managed and operated by the Rai Sanyo Historical Site Preservation Society. The representative is Mr. Masatada Yori, who seems to be a descendant. If you would like to visit, please fill in the address, name, desired date and time of the tour, number of people, and telephone number on the round-trip postcard and apply to the address below. 289 Matsubara-cho, 4-chome, Yamatooji-dori, Shinmonzen-dori, Higashiyama-ku, Kyoto-shi, Kyoto Masatada Yori However, it is closed in August and December-March. It is closed on days without reservations.
