★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Great experience and service we found this restaurant late on a Sunday evening, the Yakitori is cooked by the chef right in front of you, staff really helpful with basic English understanding.
We had to choose from a set menu which forms the basis of the meal and then we could have other items with this if we wanted to. All the food was tasty and cooked well, I was not keen on the soy milk hotpot but the wife enjoyed it.
I would like to have had more dishes but was so full after the set meal we just couldn't manage it.

Not sure if it's only like this for tourists or just the evening but we were made to order a "course meal" per person at 2000+ yen each and there's relatively little difference between each course meal. The a la carte menu is great - lots of options and reasonable prices but you can't get another skewer without having first having had a set course. See pic. All in all felt a bit of a con, which took away from what was nice food. Found this on a "budget friendly" list on Sharing Kyoto website - perhaps if you go at lunch it's more flexible and cheaper...

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ It's an old traditional kyoto-style house, converted to a yakitori with an charming ambiance. Hearts, gizzards, skins, meats, kyoto style tofu skewers. Loved the fatty pork and gizzard the most. I've had better chicken skewers near this area but still a great experience.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Wonderful Yakitori restaurant in a Kyoto Machiya (old style wooden) house, just a few blocks from Oike Subway stop on the Karasuma line. Staff were very accommodating and were the first and only place we found in Kyoto that readily understood my wife's gluten intolerance and knew exactly what to do for her to have an excellent safe meal. Food was very good. VERY. Matcha and hojicha (roasted tea) ice cream was best we had in Kyoto. The place is at least 2 steps up from hole in the wall yakitori places. Reservations aren't required, but probably are a good idea. Prices were reasonable for the quality and amount you get. We had one of the sets and it was about $30/person. With drinks and dessert we paid about $90 for 2 total. Great atmosphere, great service, great gluten free food. Great night out!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I've worked in and around restaurants for around fifteen years - long enough that everything seems familiar and the sense of wonder and show is gone when I eat out. This was the first experience I've had in recent memory that left me with that overwhelming warm all over feeling that comes with good food prepared extremely well in a comfortable setting that isn't overly contrived, paired with excellent service in the front house and back. Five stars. I loved the set menu - everything that was put in front of me fit the other items well. The organ meat straight off the grill was especially good.
