Kumano Shrine - Maizuru

Kumano Shrine is located in the eastern part of Maizuru City, Kyoto Prefecture. It is a shrine that sits on the west side of Mt. Aoba in Sugiyama, Maizuru City, Kyoto Prefecture. Saijin Kumano Gongen From the road that passes through the village of Sugiyama to the shrine, follow the path in the rice field in the northeast direction. Tuff, which is thought to have been formed by the eruption of Mt. Aoba, is rolling in the rice fields on both sides of the path. The precincts are neatly organized and include torii gates, stone lanterns, guardian dogs, worship halls, shrines, and main halls. There is a big rock in the mountains on the back of the shrine, but if you look closely, there is a square hole (about 100 mm x 200 mm) cut out by human hands. I remember that there was a Buddha statue that seems to be a sitting statue of Fudo Myo. There is "Osugi Shrine" where "Osugi no Shimizu" springs up nearby, both of which are the stage of the legend of the Great Snake. Legend of Sugiyama's Great Snake Once upon a time, there was a serpentine pond at Kumano Shrine. A very large snake lived in this pond. From time to time, this big snake came out and swallowed Shimizu from Sugiyama. It is a mysterious water that the power springs up when you swallow this fresh water.
