★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I had a fantastic experience in this large traditional restaurant, that was recommended by a local while visiting the area. I enjoyed a bowl of local Hoto noodles, together with some hot sake. The noodles are thick and they are served in a delicious broth of miso and vegetables, with pumpkin being the most important one. The service was really friendly and the location incredibly beautiful

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Our first try at houto and we were impressed!! The noodles come in different flavours in terms of meat and seafood but they are loaded with vegetables which was the winner for us!! Absolute soul food and the portions are very big! Love the setup of the restaurant itself. Tatami mats heated floors very very cool!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Huge place famous for the local specialty dish houtou. It's a large, flat noodle stew with a miso based broth. Very delicious! Pumpkin houtou is the standard option, but they also have some unusual meats to choose from if you're adventurous such as duck, wild boar, and even bear. In the time of COVID-19, they are doing a decent job by protecting customers with plastic barriers between groups. I spent ¥3800 for 2 people (no drinks).

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Great restaurant for local udon. The place is huge so we didnt need to wait. Staffs were nice and fast.
The food is good but take care of the size... much bigger than expected so ended up ordering too much.
I really recommend if you want to try the local udon.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ There are like 5 famous hotou futou restaurants in Kawaguchi-ko, but for me this one is the best. The warm and cozy atmosphere inside would make you feel comfortable and warm right away. The houtou futou was great and delicious, it was full of local vegetable like potatoes, pumpkin,etc. However, the bowl was quite big so I think it was possible for 2 people to enjoy 1 bowl of houtou futou.
The horse sashimi tasted really good and strange to me as this was my first time tried horse meat. For me, the tempura was the must-try food here. Highly recommend tempura here, especially the shrimp one.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ An excellent restaurant for a traditional Japanese dining experience. The bowls are noodles are huge but very warming on a chilly day. The shrimp tempura was definitely a star. Plus, a huge and free parking lot is out front.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We tried to beat the Sunday traffic by going there early for 11 am opening but we were underestimating. There was a huge lineup and we barely found parking. Hoto noodles were worth the wait.... Delicious and volumy. Especially comforting on a cold day. Fujisan is beautiful.
