国宝館にある阿修羅像が一番有名ですが私は迦楼羅像が好きです。 In Kofukuji temple, surprisingly, there are more than 100 National treasures and important cultural properties. Walking around Sarusawa pond, and going up a staircase of 52 steps to the temple. The number 52 shows the levels of ascetic practices in Buddhism. The five storied pagoda in Kofukuji-temple is 50 meter high, which is the second tallest in Japan. This is also a national treasure. With the establishment of the capital at Nara in 710, the temple was moved to its present location in a central block of the city. The temple grew rapidly in size and wealth under the patronage of successive emperors and empresses, and members of the powerful Fujiwara clan. Even though the buildings are burned in fires and reconstructed some times, Kofukuji Temple has a 1300 year history. Nanendo Hall is the biggest octagonal hall in Japan, this was reconstructed in the Edo period. When you walk more back of the Nintendo hall, you will see a three storied pagoda, which is also a national treasure. And the place I would like you to visit is The Kofukuji National Treasure Hall. There are various old statues, paintings, books, craftworks and historical documents made during the year 700 to 1200. The most popular one is probably the Asura statue, which is on the admission ticket.

There are many visitors here. Because I came on Sunday, there were many families who came to play with the deer. You can buy crackers for deer for 200 yen. Deer were on the outside and inside the temple. Be careful because it's a wild deer.

The buildings look nice, in the main temple there are a lot of historical statues from different periods and with different sizes, you can also take a brochure inside the temple that contains information about each statue. Taking photos inside is prohibited.

Didn’t go in. The ground itself is nice and can walk around for free. Pagoda is beautiful. I think it’s 800 yen for museum and hall.

Even though it's the most accessible temple from the stations, given the location, it's not quite as popular and crowded as Todai-ji temple. The temple complex is quite huge and vast, but with the many open space it's easy to navigate and explore. The Nandaimon remains was also interesting to see.

Holy and Charming temple #MUSTVISIT Kofukuji (興福寺, Kōfukuji) used to be the family temple of the Fujiwara, the most powerful aristocratic clan during much of the Nara and Heian Periods. A lot of interesting : traditional, art, culture and shop around

Good place to visit with a lot of history and deer. The deers tend to crowd around you if they see you with snacks or if you’re feeding one then they’ll surround you can sometimes bite you so be careful. Apart from that it’s a great place to visit.

(Trip was made back then on 21 Nov 2019, 2 years before the Covid-19 Pandemic hit) Located just outside Nara Park sits this ancient temple which was one of the seven great temples of Nara. It’s along the way to Nara Park and made a good pit stop during my last trip in Nara exactly 2 years ago before the Covid-19 pandemic hit.
