★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Honestly you can pay to get in. You'll see the world's oldest Pagoda. But do yourself a favor, walk along the left side of the entrance and look through the garden and the other buildings. It would be truly sad to miss them.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ A nice looking temple. The outside was pretty, and I didn't pay to go in but looked nice enough. There are plenty of free temples across japan that I am sure are similar so might not be worth it to pay. Depends on where you are headed and how long you have in japan

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We are actually surrounding the Shrine in the Deer Park. The shrine itself was closed as we came late. Outside of shrine looks beautiful and very well restored.
