★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Koetsu-ji Temple is located just about 100 meters west of Genko-an on the other side of the street. The garden of Koetsuji was originally the residence of Hon-ami Koetsu who was a noted artist in the 17th century. This entire property of the temple was granted to Koetsu from Shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu in 1615. After the death of Koetsu, this residence was turned into the temple in 1656. Today the temple belongs to Nichiren sect of Buddhism. Koetsuji Temple is known for its beautiful bamboo fences called Koetsu Hedge, and it also features an elegant tea garden with three tea houses with thached roof. ( Trans-word+ TGM Kyoto Guide )

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Though the garden is nice, there's very little to see here for an entrance fee of 400 yen. Even the tearooms can only be seen from a distance, not even a glimpse of the inside can be caught. The most interesting part is the path leading up to the temple, before you pay. Don't be fooled by the sign at the entrance: it mentions "calligraphy, ceramics, paintings" and more, but none of that is on display.
