★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Kitaroya has unbelievable hand made sushi and udon noodles. We were only in Kyoto for 3 days and made it a point to come here twice for the food and the friendly conversation! The owners, Naoko and her husband whose name I unfortunately didn’t get, are very warm and friendly. For English speaking travelers, they also speak great English and are a lot of fun to practice Japanese with if you are trying to learn! Make sure you try the homemade lemonade and date and walnut bliss balls if they are available, they are incredibly delicious! それは美味しいです！

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ It is slightly hidden away from the main attractions of Kyoto but we were well surprised with the food here! The sushi burritos were a fantastic fusion of Mexican and Japanese food, and the seared salmon rolls were very good! Reasonable price for very good food, would definitely recommend :)

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Kitaroya is tucked away in the sleepy neighborhood that borders the Nijo Castle. I’ve decided to travel through Japan despite having been diagnosed with Celiac (it’s doable but you better believe I ask my husband to describe, in detail, every bite of udon he takes). We happened upon Kitaroya on our way to Nijo and we were thrilled. I was able to eat the pictured sushi burrito with no problem at all. Such a beautiful spot for a quick and thoughtful bite of food.
