★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The sushi was absolutely incredible. The location itself is very nice and has sushi bar type seating. The owners are also the sushi chefs and took their time to reach us how to properly eat the various types of sushi (didn’t know there were different ways to dip the sushi depending on the fish!) While this is some of the most fantastic sushi you’ll ever have, I would also highly recommend going just to hang out and speak with the owners (they don’t speak much English, but my wife and I had an hour long conversation with them). It was one of our favorite experiences in Kyoto. It felt like hanging out and making friends with the neighborhood sushi chef (who is very funny) and eating the best sushi in Kyoto. Highly recommended.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The sushi here isn’t the very best you can get in Japan, but you’re getting real ingredients, real people, and real joy here. No stuffy uptight sushi chef here, only happiness and joy. Don’t miss out on this.
(The people who have given him a low rating because of the prices have never tasted sushi at a proper sushi shop where the chef labours over the preparation hours before you arrive). Aim to spend about ¥4,000/person here to get very full, with one serving of alcohol per person included.

Best sushi in a town for 3-4k yens.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Beautiful little shop, great hosts. Was a bit of a language barrier but we were able to have conversation with the lovely couple through Google translate. Very entertaining as other reviews have mentioned. Has a lot of fish variety. Came during a typhoon when a lot of other places were closed and were very welcoming.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ A small local sushi bar with one of the most entertaining chefs I have ever met. The sushi is obviously very fresh and well prepared but the real star is the chef who entertains the locals (and us tourists) with his antics and running commentary. We sat at the bar (really the only choice) and the locals who sat next to us were very friendly.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I would give a 6 if I could. Of all restaurants I've ever been to since college until now, this was the best. The food was good. The beer was good. The owner who made the sushi was incredibly friendly. He made the night extremely memorable.
I haven't had a single person spontaneously use Google translate to communicate. He whipped out his iPhone, spoke into it, then showed me the translated text. I thought it was amazing. He didn't shy away from the difficulty in communicating. He asked how our trip was, asked tons of questions....I think he asked more questions than my family would.
It is owned by husband / wife pair.
Give it a chance. I STRONGLY suggest it.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Delicious sushi and very friendly owners.
Came here in February with some friends. The sushi was excellent and there is also a picture menu to help you to order the items you want. There were also some off-menu items or seasonal items that were written in Japanese that you can order from if you know them or have a friend to bring you there such as "The Bomb" and a really delicious grilled fish.
It is quite pricey but for its quality, it is pretty worth it.
