★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We stumbled upon this place after the restaurant we were planning on going to was unexpectedly closed, and it was just incredible. Two old sushi masters at the counter, serving super fresh, delicious food. No one spoke any English really, but the atmosphere in there was just so great. The friendliest staff in general I think I’ve ever experienced. Full of locals (one family who sat next to us and even insisted on buying us a few types of sushi we hadn't tried before), no tourists - just a completely authentic experience that I cannot recommend more highly. They even bowed us out of the door and into the taxi!
(Only note that might put some people off is that it's 'traditional' to the point that smoking is still allowed in the restaurant. It just added to the magic for us, but worth mentioning.)

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The best sushi I've ever had! Nice and lovely family restaurant. We arrived late and still they did not refuse to serve us dinner. I really had a nice evening and felt served like a king. Whenever I go back to Kyoto, I won't hesitate to try that amazing salmon nigiri again!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The lunch deal is a fantastic value. For about $10 US, I got an excellent plate of nigiri with miso soup, tempura vegetables and shrimp, and a dessert. The gentlemen working their were all very friendly and worked around the language barrier. If I had this place next to my office back in the US, I'd be there every day for lunch.
