★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Very huge ski resort. Lots of shopping outlets and dining experience. Really a cool experience to visit the ski resort. Definitely will recommend 10/10 to tourists planning to visit Japan for ski.
Location is slightly out of the city but there’s a direct bus from the Haneda airport straight to the resort.
Stayed there for 3 nights and wished I extended my stay there. The resort is clean and cosy. Staff are very friendly all around.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ It was nice. The downside is it opens quite late (9:00) and closes early (16:00) however there is some type of night skiing.
You can rent skiis and snowboards. Lift pass is 5500 yen per day and there is some discount for multiple days.
Sadly all restaurants there also close around 16:00. So after skiing you have to find another place to eat.
Not the biggest ski resort but it's fine.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ It’s definitely not worth going to for the price. The only reason I would go is if I stayed at the hotel and got some coupon.
The snow - mostly artificial and packed.
The lifts - very slow and usually has lines leading to a 5 min wait or more.
The slopes - quite short and flat (sometimes icy in afternoons)
Just go drive an hour or so more to Niigata or deeper into Nagano. (nozawa onsen and myoko are my picks)

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The snow was artificial snow, which wasn't the biggest problem. Was still a lot of fun skiing here.
The problem was the lift. Never have I ever needed to stand in line for more than 45 minutes only to go up a ski lift. How can this be? Get a second one or so, but this was just not fun at all. This is not Disneyland for gods sake.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Not a bad drive from central Tokyo but make sure you check the conditions before you go. Lots of trails to choose from but the resort didn't have fresh powder. That led to several ice patches and it wasn't very pleasant when trying to snowboard. I recommend visiting these slopes if there is fresh snow and make sure you check the difficulty level of the routes.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Don’t go without snow forecasted… they use 100% artificial show and it’s super hard packed and icy and honestly dangerous.
The lifts were fast and not very crowded on weekdays and you are provided a food and drink pass but doesn’t fully cover the meal. With the meal pass it’s basically a ¥1000 note and you pay the rest. Most meals are ¥12-1400 beer is overpriced

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Karuizawa is a great ski resort for day trips and family outings. I wouldn't really recommend it for intermediate/advanced skiiers. Even the black diamond slopes are fairly tame. This makes it great for beginners but experienced skiers might find themselves rather bored. It's small enough to ski everything in a day, and it's close to Tokyo though which makes it really optimal for a day trip. Again, it would make a great family or beginner spot, but I'd say anyone else is better off going farther into the Alps for bigger and better hills.
