★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 愛島丘陵の東端に位置する国指定史跡、飯野坂古墳群に属する古墳の１つで、古墳時代前期～中期に築造されたものだそうです。前方後方墳1基と方墳２基で構成されています。観音塚古墳は飯野坂古墳群の中で、１番最初に築造されたと考えられています。周囲には他にも数基の前方後方墳が現存しています。飯野坂古墳群はほぼ直線上に並んで古墳が存在しており、観音塚古墳は東側から数えて３番目となり、宮山古墳の北西に位置します。
雷神山古墳を散策した時には、その大きさに驚きましたが、今回はまた別の意味で驚きました。住宅街の中に、これほどの数の古墳が密集し現存しているとは…。
館腰駅と名取駅のほぼ中間にありますので、徒歩で行く場合は、周囲の古墳群や雷神山古墳も一緒に巡られる事をお勧めします。
 It is one of the tumuli belonging to the Iinozaka tumulus group, a nationally designated historic site located at the eastern end of the Aijima hill, and is said to have been built in the early to middle Kofun period. It consists of one front and rear burial mound and two square burial mounds. The Kannonzuka Tumulus is believed to be the first to be built in the Iinozaka Tumulus Group. There are several other front and rear burial mounds in the surrounding area. The Iinozaka burial mounds are lined up almost in a straight line, and the Kannonzuka burial mounds are the third from the east side and are located northwest of the Miyayama burial mounds.
When I strolled around the Raijinyama Kofun, I was surprised at its size, but this time I was surprised in another way. It is said that such a large number of ancient burial mounds still exist in the residential area.
It is located between Tatekoshi Station and Natori Station, so if you go on foot, it is recommended that you also visit the surrounding tumuli and Raijinyama Kofun.

古墳時代の海岸線だと海のすぐ脇のようです
古墳自体は整備の手が入ってないのですが
形はしっかり残ってます
近くの前方後円墳群とは向きが違うので別の集団だと思われます
