★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Beautiful room, spacious, clean. Lovely ryokan. RIGHT next to the start of the trail to go to Jigokudani/see the snow monkeys. Very helpful staff to find restaurants if you opt out of the meal; in that case having a car helped. Lovely walk around the area and just beautiful, calming environment inside and outside the facilities. Loved my stay.

Very meticulous attentions towards the room and during dinner and breakfast. Nice onsen, with possibility to book a private one, which was really nice. An authentic Japanese experience !

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Everything about this hotel was 5 stars. The hotel is close to Snow Monkey park and local ski areas. The staff are super friendly, the food was amazing, they have both private or public Osen baths and the rooms were amazing. We stayed in a traditional room. Would definitely recommend this place.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The Japanese Royal family comes here! Spouse made excellent choice to book this gem of a place for our Snow Monkey visit (5min walk to START of 30min trail to monkey park). Onsite, hotel has both free public onsens and private onsen (for a fee ard JPY 2700, big enough for up to 8 pax, feels luxurious for 2). Tip: go for private onsen if you are travelling with Partner, although public onsen equally good. Breakfast / dinner are provided, although hotel staff did request you to decide on meal types / timing at time of check-in, as well as for private onsen. Hotel also provides free shuttle service to Yudanaka station around 10-ish (for those using Nagano-Dentetsu Line to get to Nagano Station). Hotel is 5min walk up slope from Bus Terminal if you arrive from Nozawa Onsen Resort area (or 15min in heavy snow conditions). Room still uses old school physical key, but is good sized, with separated dry and wet toilet area. Shower is combined bathtub / walk-in shower type, with good temp control / water pressure. Hotel also loans (for free) snow boots. One negative experience we faced was the Spouse took a fall inside the lobby area, as the staff somehow guided us to go to the lobby area to change out of their snow boots, instead of at entrance where anti-slip mats were. Spouse suffered bruise butt and elbow as a result. Management need to seriously relook at protocol on this for staff. Overall, still ok to keep 5 star review.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This was an excellent place to stay, and made for a relaxing vacation within our vacation.
The service here was wonderful. Only some of the staff speak English, but overall communication wasn't an issue. Kobayashi was particularly helpful. We wish we had known ahead of time about the shuttle van, but since we checked in so late, I suspect we missed out on an introduction.
The food was fantastic. Beautiful, tasty, filling, but not too heavy. They were probably the meals with the greatest proportion of vegetables we had in Japan, which I loved.
The baths were excellent. My partner and I did a private bath together and quite enjoyed it. That said, the public bath is also excellent and seems to be frequently empty; the couple of times I went, I never saw anyone else in the ladies' bath.
While the private bath is great and not much of an additional expense, the quality of the public bath is so great that the only reason to have a private session is if you want to have some mixed gender bathing. The closest thing to a criticism I have is that the bath water is quite hot; I recommend a cool bucket shower before getting in, and maybe a couple of cold ones later.

We were spoiled with delicious kaiseki 9 course dinner and a traditional Japanese breakfast consisting of lots of different dishes, local pickles and delicacies. The rooms were comfortable and attention payed to every detail. The hotel offers a private onsen that can be booked at check-in. There is a lovely courtyard with water features and fish pond offering piece and tranquility. Lovely, lovely - I would definitely go there again.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ First impressions are typically lasting ones. My first impression was awesome! They called us in advance to confirm our stay and the time of our arrival and to let us know that there are not many restaurants (at least not for dinner) nearby. We arrived late for check in but the staff were quick to kindly meet us out front before we even had the car doors open. From the moment we stepped foot into the hotel it was obvious there was a lot of time and effort into making our stay enjoyable. There is a view from virtually every window in the hotel. Waterfalls, tree’s, ponds with coy fish, etc... The rooms are spacious, comfortable, and packed with all the necessary amenities. The private onsen was beautiful only to realize we hadn’t even seen the best part, we sat in the hot indoor onsen oblivious to the outdoor one. And the best part, tattoos are allowed! On the public onsen and pool, but for ¥1.500 we choose to use the private onsen. Once we made our way to the outdoor onsen we were nice and cozy and able to enjoy the view of the trees and the snow in privacy. Slept like a rock and woke up to an amazing breakfast with a wide variety of homemade and local goodness. Once dressed and ready for the day it was a 20 minute walk to see the monkeys and the hotel provided a discount to the park. Couldn’t have asked for a better stay. Awesome hotel, I hope I get the opportunity to stay again. 10/10.
