★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I went to this area of Kyoto for a Sake distillery tour and found this gem of a restaurant by accident as we were hungry and didn't want to go far to eat.
Best ramen ever!!! The owner/chef was very modest and personable and I enjoyed my conversations with him while he cooked our meals.
His place only has 8 seats at the counter but it is well worth the wait. We all ordered his 'standard ramen' set dinner with gyozas and fried chicken and it was anything but standard.
I am a soup lover and I order soups where ever I travel in the world. His broth was the best I have ever tasted. His gyozas and chicken were also amazing.
I asked him what his special ingredient was that made his broth so good. He pointed at his heart and said, "It's good because I make it with love from my heart!" How can you beat that!
If it is all about the food and not the decorations, I would put his ramen up against anyone else's in the world.
Make the trip to his place. You won't be disappointed.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ During winter, I came here about once a week. I have tried numerous Ramen places in Kyoto, but this is the one I would always go back to. They have a wide selection of styles, and the owner loves his job, always serving you with a smile. His passion is probably the reason why this Ramen tastes so good! Highly recommended, Ichiban Ramen in Kyoto!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Light pork broth soup for this yummy ramen near Demachiyanagi Station. ¥850 gets you ramen, rice, and karaage froed chicken, with kimchi on the side. They also have gyoza and other set lunches. Great value for money. The chef is also very friendly.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ For ¥1000 you get a huge bowl of ramen ? with 6 pieces of roast pork. Along with are 1 cup of rice and 6 pieces of Gyoza/4pcs of Karaage. For ¥800, you get a single bowl of ramen ?. Regular ramen is ¥650.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Small, one-counter place serving up ramen with the usual side dishes. Didn't expect an English restaurant but they had one!
The gyoza and karaage were so-so, but the ramen was solid. Tonkotsu had plenty of depth to begin with -- we could see the giant pot full of pork bones simmering behind the counter -- and hitting it with a spoonful of garlic really amped it up. Char siu was thin but flavorful.
