南北朝期の作成と推定され、本例は高砂市付近で製作され、持ち込まれたことが石材（竜山石）から分かりますと、現地に説明版があります。右側に阿弥陀如来坐像、左側に地蔵菩薩立像が並んでおり、上三草の旧丹波街道沿いに建立されていることから、旅人やこの周辺に住む人々へのご加護を目的としたものかなと個人的には思います。地蔵磨崖仏もすぐ周辺にあることから、史跡として身に行く場合は２つを同時にみるのが良さそうです。しかしながら、旧街道とはいえ、現在は道幅が狭く一車線の道路なのでおいそれと見に行くのは厳しいです。三草山登山口の駐車場が周辺にあるので、停めて歩くのも手ですが、それなりに距離があるのでお勧めできませんが、車で行く場合この石仏さんを正面にみて西に少しだけ進んだところに退避出来る場所があるので、今回はそこに停車させましたが、地面があって（車の退避はたぶん目的外）停車可能なだけで自分のように停めた場合・車へのダメージがあるかもしれませんので、そこは自己責任で判断してください。思った以上に車の通行があるので、見学中も走行車に気を付けてください。
