地蔵堂に安置されている地蔵菩薩像は、平安時代初め小野篁（おののたかむら）が一度冥土に行った時に生身の地蔵尊を拝んだことか蘇り、一本の木から六体の地蔵像を彫り出したうちの一つと伝わっています。
六体の地蔵像は大善寺に安置していましたが、平安時代末期に京へ出入りする街道口の6ヶ所に分けて安置するようになりました。
深泥池畔に安置していたものを、明治時代に『上善寺』に移しました。
「鞍馬口地蔵」「深泥池地蔵」とよばれ、毎年8月22日、23日に行われる「六地蔵めぐり」には多くの参拝者が訪れます。
本堂向かって右の庭園、紅葉がキレイでした。
I visited on December 6, 2009.
The Jizo Bodhisattva statue enshrined in the Jizo-do is a revived statue of Ono no Takamura who worshiped a living Jizo statue when he went to the Meiji era at the beginning of the Heian period. It is said to be one of the carved out.
The six Jizo statues were enshrined at Daizenji Temple, but at the end of the Heian period, they were enshrined in six places at the entrance to Kyoto.
What was enshrined on the shore of the Midorogaike was moved to "Kamizenji" in the Meiji era.
Called "Kuramaguchi Jizo" and "Midorogaike Jizo", many worshipers visit the "Rokujizo Tour" held on August 22nd and 23rd every year.
The garden on the right facing the main hall, the autumn leaves were beautiful.
