外鎌城跡は、初瀬谷と忍坂谷を眼下に見下ろし、かつ大和平野東南部を一望することができる。この付近では、最も壮大な山城であるが、規模は小さい。伝承では、西阿（玉井西阿ともいう）が築いた六城の一つで、暦応四年（1341）北朝方との戦いに最後に立てこもったところという。南北朝時代の城郭をそのまま伝えている。外鎌山は別名「大和富士」・「朝倉富士」とも呼ばれ、万葉集では忍阪山の名でよまれている。

 There is an explanation sign of the remains of Sotokama Castle in Asakuradai No. 5 Park.
The Sotokama castle ruins overlook the Hatsuseya and Shinobazu valleys and overlook the southeastern part of the Yamato Plain. It is the most spectacular mountain castle in this area, but its size is small. According to tradition, it is one of the six castles built by Nishia (also called Tamaisaia), and was the last to settle in the battle with the Northern Dynasty in 1341. It conveys the castle from the Northern and Southern Dynasties as it is. Sotokamayama is also known as "Yamato Fuji" or "Asakura Fuji" and is called Shinosakayama in Manyoshu.
