When you hear the story, you are with “tea farmers”. One of the few "single malt" tea shops in Kyoto that sells 100% homegrown tea instead of blended tea. M	Maria Perez on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Jinjiro’s 6th generation staff was super kind and offered my family and I a full tasting experience of his 3 matcha products ( this year and last year samidori, as well as this year’s asahi). He also gave us tencha to try and spent almost one hour explaining the nuances of his products, uji tea unique aspects as well as his shop’s history. I highly recommend visiting his shop for a true Uji-matcha experience.

Recommended tea are his single origin, single cultivar Matcha shaded in the traditional Honzu method (under rice straw). The cultivars available are Asahi and Samidori, you can drink both to feel the difference and decide which one you like best. The same cultivars are also available in Tencha form, which can be enjoyed by infusing the leaves at low temperature in a teapot. Jinjiro is highly recommend to speak directly to a tea producer in Uji, but it might be best to go with a Japanese speaker to enjoy a full experience and have interesting discussions about traditional Matcha from Uji.

They have very high quality tea, from tea leaves grown on the family farm in Uji, over several generations. The owner is very knowledgeable and passionate about tea. I was able to sit down and try the tencha and matcha - both delicious. It takes time to brew the tea, and serve each customer with attention, so you will need some time to spare. The atmosphere inside the shop is very relaxing and from a bygone era. I enjoyed the experience very much!
