お茶のかんばやし ocha no KANBAYASHI (Tea shop KANBAYASHI)

Had bought some great tea.

Genuine good tea (not the one for tourists).

U get to experience grinding of tea leaves into powder using traditional tools. After that, they will use the powder to make a cup of tea for you and it comes with wagashi. They also have short factory (located behind the shop) tour apparently but I didn't get to go

An authentic, non-touristic tea shop with nice servers. There’s a nice view over a tiny, typical Japanese garden in the shop. Had a nice chat with a server from France who’s working there to learn about teas and improve his Japanese!

Stopped in Uji after Nara to buy some tea to bring home. We stopped at a couple of other shops before coming to this one. The first one closest to the station was packed with people and very little customer service. The customer service at this store was great. They are just a short walk further down the block. They welcomed us in and showed us an English chart of the different kinds of tea available. They also had a sales person (Yann) who could speak English and help us out. They have a small space upstairs for a tea service with 2 kinds of tea and 2 kinds of matcha on the menu to choose from. There were 4 of us so we ordered all 4 to try. The price ranged from 600-800 yen and included a small dessert. Unfortunately the shop isn't big enough to allow samples of every kind of tea. We bought a few of the ones in the tea service that we tried and they also had another sample downstairs. This shop blends their own tea rather than have someone else blend it and just put their name on it. I would definitely recommend a stop here if you are looking to buy tea in Uji. We found it hard to read the signage to find this store so look at the pictures of the store front that some others have posted here to find it.

Small but cozy place. Got to try Japanese tea for free! And then enjoyed a cup of tea on the second floor, 648 yen plus extra sweet!

Authentic tea shop sells divine tea. Appreciate the tea in a less commercial way. Highly recommend this tea ‘徒然’ in the photo. It’s smooth and refreshing with a comforting aroma.

Experts in green tea. You can visit where they transform the tea (and where they make macha) for free. You can also do a traditional tea ceremony (must reserve before though). Quality products unlike other shops in Uji (few tourists traps).
