There are four stone Buddha statues that used to be in the city of Nishitokyo, in front of the grave area of ​​the successive priests of Nyoirinji Temple. None of them have the shape of a Buddha statue such as Koshinto, but they are undoubtedly the object of worship. This temple has taken over what was once installed in the area where there were many Danya in Nyoirinji. At the same time as telling the beliefs of the past, I feel a little lonely while feeling the development of Nishitokyo City. I think that some people in Japan after the war had peace activities that emphasized their devotion to Buddhism, probably because of their reflection on State Shinto. For example, the picture books of "Okorijizo" and "Mukaejizo" depicting the tragedy of the atomic bomb, and "Barefoot Gen", whose magazine was moved from Shonen Jump to the red flag, were originally in Tomoko's funeral scene. The scene where the sutra is chanted is drawn in a double-page spread. And at this Nyoirinji Temple, there is a Waraku Jizo statue that enshrines the victims of the war, regardless of whether they are enemies or allies, which was never possible at Yasukuni Shrine. Once again, we will review Buddhism, which is one aspect of ancient Japanese beliefs, and revive Shinbutsu Shugo as a facility or doctrine rather than an individual custom. Due to the rapid urbanization and forgetfulness of these stone Buddha statues from around 1955, it was difficult to keep them in their original positions depending on the location. Due to these circumstances, the four stone Buddha statues displayed here were once built on the Edo zdai, Fuji Kaido and Aza Daimon in the former Kamehoya village, but they were gradually relocated to the precincts of Nyoirinji Temple. Four are folk religions that have a long history in Buddhism, and three are built by local villagers who are close to each other and have the same religion. Judging from its old position, there must have been many Danya in Nyoirinji during the lecture. Even though these stone Buddhas have been displaced from their original positions, it is a cultural property that has gained a place of peace in the precincts with the understanding of the ancient temple of Kamihoya Village, Nyoirinji. It is a good example of how to preserve the stone Buddha for a long time.
