Visited in August 2020 I took the BRT from Sheng to the miraculous Ipponmatsu station (there is also a large parking lot) The first impression was that it was a beautiful facility, and the events from the earthquake were displayed on panels in chronological order at the Densetsukan. I also think that cars washed away by the tsunami were on display. There was also a corner food court selling local specialties. (I bought wakame seaweed and a book cover) The miracle pine tree is about 10 minutes from the tradition hall. There was also a place overlooking the sea on the way. It was so quiet that I couldn't believe it was hit by a big tsunami. This is a place I would like to visit again after a while.

I visited you in December 2021. I want you to see and feel it with your own eyes so that you will not lose your memory of the earthquake.

I was impressed by the sense of mission of the people involved in the road enlightenment "Comb Tooth Operation". 11 routes were opened on the 12th and 15 routes on the 15th, the day after the disaster, and it was a relief for many people that emergency vehicles such as ambulances, police, and the Self-Defense Forces could pass through.

One pine root is on display. (* It has not been exhibited locally since 2022.02.14.) It is exhibited outside, and it is lit up even after it is closed (at night), and it looks fantastic unlike the daytime. The parking lot is available at night, so please take a look ♫

When I noticed, I was there for 3 hours. Inside the facility, there are screenings of images from the time of the earthquake and exhibits of things washed away by the tsunami. There was also a restaurant, a product market, and a walking road leading to the miraculous Ipponmatsu, so I had a fulfilling time. Please watch the video at the time of the earthquake at your own risk.

So glad that I was able to make the trip up here. I was living in Kanagawa during the 2011 earthquake and tsunami. My squadron was a part of Operation Tomodachi that assisted Japan in the relief effort. The museum may be small but the amount of information and videos make it one of the best I’ve been to in Japan. Everything had English captions! Yay! The food and shopping available in the other half were tasty!

This venue is located close to the shore with the massive sea walls, it has big parking area, and it has many creative presentation materials about the Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami 2011, especially the disasterhistory in Rikuzentakata. Close to the museum, there is a damaged school building that is kept to remind us about the disaster. Very interesting way to teach the future generation about the disaster. My deep condolences to the victims and their families, affected by the earthquake and tsunami.

A truly beautiful place that brought me to tears. Even though it's been 11 years since the devastating Tsunami hits you can still get a feeling of scale and sheer force of what happened that day.
