★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 標高30mほどの愛島丘陵北東部縁辺に立地する。薬師堂・宮山・観音塚・山居・山居北の5基の前方後方墳と2基の方墳からなる。これだけ前方後方墳がまとまって存在する例は稀である。
前方後方墳は、山居北古墳(主軸長40m)を除くと主軸長60～74mと大型で、後方部の高さは3～6mである。方墳は一辺が15mほどで規模は小さい。発掘調査が行われていないので、年代など具体的な内容は明らかでないが、薬師堂古墳のくびれ部から壼形埴輪が出土していることなどから、4世紀末～5世紀にかけて代々の首長が次々に築造したものと考えられる。
 It is located on the northeastern margin of the Aijima Hills at an altitude of about 30m. It consists of 5 front and rear burial mounds, Yakushido, Miyayama, Kannonzuka, Yamai, and Yamai Kita, and 2 burial mounds. It is rare that such anterior-posterior burial mounds exist together.
The front and rear burial mounds are large with a spindle length of 60 to 74 m, excluding the Yamai Kita tumulus (spindle length of 40 m), and the height of the rear part is 3 to 6 m. The burial mound is small in scale with a side of about 15m. Since no excavation survey has been conducted, the specific details such as the age are not clear, but due to the excavation of jar-shaped haniwa from the constriction of the Yakushido Ancient Tomb, successive chiefs from the end of the 4th century to the 5th century It is believed that it was built.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 2021年12月13日に見学しました。昭和53年に国指定史跡になっています。愛島丘陵の東北部に位置しています。5基の前方後方墳(薬師堂・宮山・山居・山居北・観音塚)が、ほぼ同一方向を向いて築造されています。古墳の前方側から後方側に向うと、だいたい北向きだと思います。その他に2基の方墳(観音塚北1・2号)が有ります。近くにカラト塚古墳や山囲古墳が有りましたが、削平されて現存していません。
前方後方墳が、多数集まる古墳群は、大変珍しいと思います。古墳時代前期4世紀に特定の地位を世襲した地方豪族の墓ではないかと思います。
We visited on December 13, 2021. It has become a nationally designated historic site in 1978. It is located in the northeastern part of the Medeshima Hills. Five front and rear burial mounds (Yakushido, Miyayama, Yamai, Yamai Kita, Kannonzuka) are built facing almost the same direction. From the front side of the tumulus to the rear side, I think it faces north. In addition, there are two burial mounds (Kannon Tsukakita No. 1 and 2). There was a Karatozuka burial mound and a mountain burial mound nearby, but they have been flattened and do not exist.
I think it is very rare to find a group of ancient burial mounds with many front and rear burial mounds. I think it is the tomb of a local lord who inherited a specific position in the early 4th century of the Kofun period.
