北陸新幹線が開業してJRから分離されて第三セクターの管理になりましたが、時折貨物列車が轟音を立てて通過するのを見ながら、日本海縦貫線が確かにここにあったことを思い出します。

映画「戦国自衛隊」のロケ地でもありました。どのくらいの人が覚えているかなぁ?
レンガ造りの小さな倉庫も良いね。近代遺産だな♪

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 新潟県と富山県の県境付近に位置する駅っていうのは言わなくてもわかるか (^_^;)
日本海のすぐ目の前にある駅ですが､逆に海が近すぎて暴風対策設備や防波堤？の防災設備が駅と海の間に設置してある為､駅のホームから海はよく見えません。
こればかりは仕方ありませんけど (^_^;)
駅の周辺は国道８号が目の前通っててあと漁が漁港が近くにあるかな？あと､もしかしたらどこか海岸に降りれる所があるかも？

Ichiburi in winter is severe. I came to the westernmost tip of Niigata prefecture using the JR Echigo Tokimeki Pass.

455系急行の発着駅にもなっています。
駅舎は開業時からのものが残っていて、駅舎内にある観光案内図もいつから使っているのか、他では見ないような相当厳かなものでした。
糸魚川方面から急行でこの駅にやってきましたが、多くの人が折り返し列車で糸魚川方面に戻ってしまい、泊方面まで抜けていった人は少数でした。
