The moat garden (main garden) is a dry landscape garden with an L-shaped plan along the south and west sides of the main house. It is a closed inner yard surrounded by earthen walls and warehouses. It is a seated garden where you can feel the personality of a samurai that has been divided so that it looks the most beautiful when viewed from the upper floor and the wet edge. Go through the small gate on the left side of the main building's Shikidai entrance, which is the entrance of the main garden along the south side of the main building, and the long and narrow garden that stretches out in front of you is covered with large gray sand and stepping stones in it Continues to the back. This stepping stone has a bold arrangement along with the shoe removal stones and has the features of the late Edo period. Although this garden is not enough to say migratory, it has a structure that you can enjoy walking on a stepping stone. Both when watching from inside the room and when migrating, the gate will be the starting point and proceed forward. The garden trees and stones in the main yard are located alongside the earthen walls and the walls of the warehouse, which are the background of the garden, and feel slightly higher than the center of the sandy garden. In other words, when viewing mainly from the interior of the main house, the design is low on the front and high on the theory street. In addition, the earthen walls and the walls of the warehouse, which are the background of the garden, are unified with dazzling white plaster, but in front of the Tsukiji fence on the left side immediately after the garden gate, a hedgerow of Inumaki is planted as another wall. It is another background with different colors and textures, giving a multi-layered view to the garden landscape, which tends to be boring due to its shallow depth and flatness when viewed from indoors, and is an important accent. A short rectangular lantern is placed in front of the hedgerow of Inumaki, which is a point. Proceeding further, a conspicuous couple pine is planted. These two pine trees are the highest scenery in this garden. Satsuki and garden stones are rhythmically arranged in small balls to fill the feet of the pine, and before the storage wall at the end, Satsuki increases in size, and the tall Kasuga lanterns and the three stone stones are standing. It is arranged to decorate the climax of this main garden along with etc. In other words, this garden is a garden with an auspicious timeline that shows prosperity as you go ahead. Finally, as you proceed over the stepping stones to fade out, a cylindrical water basin rests on the edge of the building. This is the end of the main yard, where hand water is off the edge because great people and guests do not need to draw water on their own, but have specialized servants who draw water with ladle. This area is a somewhat open space with a little vagueness and a sense of tension, but there is a streak on the ground with a long and thin stone, probably a fence or storehouse that stood along the streak in the past. It seems that the vacancy suitable for was made. (November 13, 1980)
