★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Locally owned sushi restaurant ran by a husband and wife.. they are very sweet people, and although they did not speak much English and we did not know much Japanese, they were very friendly and gave outstanding service. The food was sashimi / sushi was fresh. The wife kindly pointed to things on our plate we weren't familiar with and the husband even translated on his phone. I highly recommend this place for both the good food and amazing customer service.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Great little place hidden away. Definitely a gem of Kyoto. The wife owner knows a little bit of English even, so foreigners shouldn't have any problems. The husband owner speaks less English but is very communicative nonetheless. For sushi it's fairly inexpensive. A plate of sushi with 8-10 pieces was around ¥1400. Highly recommended. The sushi is prepared right in front of you.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Little Gem in an alley which was empty when I visited. I tried the sampler to see how the sushi was, but the prawn and fatty tuna were by far the best. Although I only know a tiny bit of Japanese, we had a tiny conversation and they were extremely nice. Sushi prepared right in front of you. Sampler in photo was 1600 Yen.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Welcoming elderly (but clearly young at heart) couple runs an excellent sushi place. Very affordable box meals but a more discriminating a la carte menu is available. The menu is fairly small but it guarantees quality. The fatty tuna, hand rolled by the restaurant owner, melts in your mouth. His coworker and wife speaks some limited english and, together with a picture menu, you won’t have any difficulty ordering. Highly recommended.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Second gen sushi restaurant open since the 1930s! The couple working here is so nice, some of the most friendly and hospitable people we met in Japan. They don’t speak much English but they have a language translation device to communicate with visitors. The sushi is also good value and the environment is very cozy and comfortable
