★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Visit here and you will know why Hamamatsu is called city of music. Huge 2 floor museum with unbelievable musical instruments from around the world. You can try your skills on some. Very close to Hamamatsu station. Entry tickets are decently priced. Worth visit if you have 2-3 hours time.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Great museum - well worth the visit if you are ever in Hamamatsu! The collection is not humungous - I saw everything in less than 2 hours - but it is very well curated and best of all there are recordings of most things that you can listen to and the self-guided tour includes a lot of information and interesting stories. I don't speak Japanese and had no problem navigating the museum (the self-tour is also in English). There's even an instrument you can play with instructions that will let you make passable music within a few minutes!
I was also surprised to see an entire room full of electronic instruments though these were not well curated - they had minimal descriptions, were not part of the self-tour and did not include recordings. Hopefully this section will be expanded in the future; at a minimum they should include the theremin in this room (the first electronic instrument!) And, while I was impressed they had the entire Roland Aria series, it was odd that they had no examples of the original instruments these were copies of (like the TB-303 and TR-808). But I assume the electronic section was a recent addition and the rest of the museum is very well laid out. Love it!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The museum is very close to the station and has luggage storage (but you can also leave them in the storage at the station as well). The place is nice and well taken care of. Full with various kinds of musical instruments from around the world. And I do mean around the world. You can even listen to the sounds the instruments make from recordings. Staff here are very friendly and helpful although we do not speak much Japanese.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This is actually a great museum. There are many instruments from around the world, often special exhibitions. You can listen to recordings of the instruments and sometimes play them. There are good signs, oftentimes also in English. Do not get the (free) audio device. It just repeats what's already on the signs, in a computer-generated voice. You will spend a lot of time realizing you don't need it, and it's not updated to the current displays. It also interferes with listening to the headphones at each instrument.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Interesting museum. You can see a lot of old instruments. They have headphones at every station so children can hear the sounds that are made by the instruments displayed. It's a small enough museum you can cover in an hour. They even have a play room in the lower level where children can play with all kinds of instruments including a piano, drums, etc....
