ここは下総佐倉牧の１つ柳沢牧の野馬土手跡で、酒々井町と八街市の境に位置している。酒々井アウトレットモールの東端から、途中跡切れたりもするが、畑の中を通り県道富里酒々井線まで続いており、八街側が柳沢牧になっていたと思われる。野馬土手は牧の柵の役割をしていた。江戸時代、幕府は広大な下総台地で主に軍用馬の確保を目的に、半野性の馬(野馬)の放牧を行っていた。大きくは東の佐倉牧に西の小金牧に分かれ、佐倉牧は柳沢牧を含め7牧もあった。明治時代になると牧は廃止され新田開発が進められた。ここは現在も都市開発が進み、失われようとしている野馬土手にあって、生き延びている貴重な史跡である。

This is the site of the Noma Bank of Yanagisawa Maki, one of the Shimosa Sakura Maki, and is located on the border between Shisui Town and Yachimata City. From the eastern end of the Shisui Outlet Mall, there are some traces on the way, but it continues through the fields to the prefectural road Tomisato Shisui Line, and it seems that the Yachimata side was Yanagisawa Maki. The Noma bank acted as a fence for the pasture. During the Edo period, the shogunate grazing semi-wild horses (wild horses) on the vast Shimosa plateau, mainly for the purpose of securing military horses. It was roughly divided into Sakuramaki in the east and Koganemaki in the west, and there were 7 Sakuramaki including Yanagisawamaki. In the Meiji era, Maki was abolished and Nitta development was promoted. This is a valuable historic site that has survived on the Noma Bank, which is still undergoing urban development and is about to be lost.
