I spent three weeks at Kyoto Genji JACS and it was a great experience. The teachers are excellent and the teaching approach they use really helps you to understand and use new grammar points in everyday life. All the staff are really friendly and helpful. The location is convenient as it's within reasonable walking distance of Kyoto Station and the stations of the private railways, plus there are frequent city buses along the streets outside. Many tourist sights are within walking distance or you can hop on a bus or train. There are plenty of restaurants and convenience stores nearby and the msin shopping street is a few minutes walk away. I stayed in a private apartment that the school organised and it was only a short walk away and, although somewhat spartan, it had everything I needed and was reasonably priced. I would definitely recommend this school if you want to improve your Japanese.

I studied at the newly-opened GenkiJACS Kyoto school for two weeks and had such a great experience! The teachers and staff are passionate about what they do and have created a positive learning environment for everyone. I really liked the small class size and interactive teaching style. New materials were presented in ways that are engaging and fun. I also appreciated that there was so much support all throughout - from pre-arrival, accommodations, special events, and departure. Additionally, being in Kyoto makes the learning experience even more special. The school is centrally located and everything is within walking distance. There are convenient stores, restaurants, shopping malls, and train stations close by. You can also walk or take a short train ride to museums, temples, and other heritage sites. It’s a perfect blend of studying the language and cultural immersion, and I can’t recommend it enough.

I studied at this school for two weeks and had an amazing time during my stay! The staff were very helpful and all of the teachers were very kind and patient. I was able to learn a lot in just a couple of weeks and noticed my Japanese improve quickly. Also, the location was absolutely perfect! Kyoto is like taking a step back into the past and there’s so much Japanese culture to explore throughout. I’m very grateful to everyone at the school and all of the friends I’ve made and I would highly recommend this school to anyone wishing to learn Japanese in Japan!

I have studied three times at Genki at all their schools (福岡、京都、東京). The Kyoto school does not only offer a cozy learning environment but is also near the city center (河原町). I could improve my Japanese with goal based private/group lessons. I also want to point out that Genki employs extremely friendly, carring and supportive staff. Besides, my accommodation was 10 minutes away from school by walk. It had a kitchen, a bathroom, a shower, a washing machine and a balcony with a beautiful view over the roofs of Kyoto as well as major tourist attractions. It has been the best experience with Genki so far and by far.

Maybe the best language school in the whole world? I stayed at Genki Kyoto for 6 weeks and had some of the best time of my life for sure. Going to class and studying more Japanese was something I looked forward to every day. I learned so much in such a short amount of time that I felt confident engaging in casual conversation purely in Japanese language when going out, and this led me to making friends with the open-hearted, welcoming, kind and generous people of Kyoto. The staff is always helpful and does the most to answer your questions and arrange your study and stay. The teachers are always kind and patient, and with only 4-5 students at a time in our class, it felt very personal, and despite varying ages and backgrounds, both on the student side and on the teacher side, it felt like we are all friends. Definitely need to study here again. P.S.: please say hi to はな先生 for me! またね!

I spent an amazing 3 months studying at Genki in Kyoto! The teachers and staff are incredible, helpful, and friendly. My classes were 2-7 people, depending on the week. In class, we studied vocabulary, grammar, kanji, and listening comprehension. I felt like the classes were particularly effective because they incorporated so much pair work, were entirely in Japanese, and moved at a good pace. I never felt overwhelmed or lost because the teachers are really good at explaining things in multiple ways until you understand. I was also able to take 3 weeks of cultural classes in conjunction with my Japanese language ones. These were a great way to meet other students, explore Kyoto, and learn about the deep history that is integral to understanding Kyoto. The classes consisted of visits to shrines and temples and experiential craft classes. These were great because they were activities that I never would've signed up for on my own and they really enriched my time in Kyoto! My favorite, surprisingly difficult, activity was making Wagashi. During national holidays, Genki arranges free cultural trips for students. We went to Arashiyama to do calligraphy at Daikaku-ji, Uji to participate in a tea ceremony at Byodoin temple, and hiked at Mt. Kurama. These were all amazing experiences and it was nice to have them arranged by Genki. I lived in a private apartment arranged by Genki JACS. It was a great size (about 18m2) and very conveniently located between Kyoto Station and Kawaramachi Station. The apartment came furnished and clean when I arrived. Overall, cannot recommend Genki JACS Kyoto more! It's a great way to improve your Japanese while exploring a city with lots of culture and history. The staff and teachers are amazing and you won't regret studying at Genki JACS Kyoto!

I arranged to study at Genki School in Kyoto about 9 months before my actual arrival. At that time, the school had not existed yet. Nevertheless, I received steady updates from the school with reminders to take my placement test, to arrange my living in Kyoto, and asking to help with any other arrangements. I felt very welcomed in the school although I was likely the oldest student there. The method of teaching Japanese is exceptional. I have experience studying at one of the Japanese Schools in New York. The difference between the two schools is tremendous. In New York, while we almost finished an entire book, the speaking freely in class was not allowed as we were told that we are not yet at the level of speaking. At Genki school I started speaking nearly immediately after my arrival. I even realized that my vocabulary was not as limited as I have thought. I was able to have short conversations on the streets of Kyoto and even explain to a taxi driver where I wanted to go. While my level is still very basic and I have a long way before becoming proficient in Japanese, the teachers at Genki school made me feel that there is a possibility of actually speaking freely one day. I was also impressed with the lessons not being boring. I haven't felt sleepy in classes even though the classes were 4 to 6 hours per day and I was jet lagged. I am very grateful to all the teachers in the school and hope to come back one day.

I spent 5 weeks at Genki in Kyoto at the beginning of this year and it was a great experience. It was my second time studying with Genki and first time at the Kyoto branch. The school itself is new and contained on one floor of a building in central Kyoto, close to the shopping district and with good transport links. There are great facilities on site for students and the staff and teachers are very helpful. I found the course content and material very engaging and pitched just right for my level. The teachers I had were all really attentive and patient and there was always a good atmosphere in lessons. I highly recommend studying with Genki whether you're just beginning or have some knowledge already.
