★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 行くまではかなり辛い。鐘もあります。展望は山頂行ったほうがよい。観音堂目当てで登山すると物足りないかも。ただこの山の中にあるのは何ともいえず風情あります。

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ マップの位置にある建物は、正しくは月居山光明寺観音堂と言い、大同2（807）年に建てられたお堂の中には、仏師・運慶の作といわれる高さ約1.8mの聖観世音菩薩像が安置されているそうです。
★月居山光明寺の跡は、観音堂の下、月居山との間の鞍部にあり、石仏・石塔群、鐘楼堂、山門が残っており、鐘は自由に突く事ができます。月居山光明寺跡の石仏・石塔群は大子町の文化遺産(史跡)となっています。
★観音堂から袋田の滝までのコースは眺望が良く、紅葉の「生瀬富士」が望まれ、また滝の上流側を見下ろす事ができます。

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 袋田の滝をメインストリートから外れて訪れるも楽しいものです。添付した画像は滝の裏手から月居山方向に山道を歩いたものです。オンシーズンでも人は少なく高齢者や家族連れでもゆったりとした気分で歩くことができます。ゴール付近には(聖観音堂)があります。ここから分岐を伝って袋田の滝を真上から眺めることもできます。低山登山で簡単、眺望よしです。ぜひトライして下さい。

大同２年（８０７）の創建といわれています。永保３年（１０８３）、源義家が奥州征伐の際、このお堂の中に一晩籠って戦勝を祈願したと伝えられています。
鐘もあり、連打や強くはつかないように書いてありました。
優しくついてみました。
頂上からは、景観がとっても良かったです。
袋田の滝から家族連れが登ってきました。
袋田の滝からは階段で上がるようです。
