★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 歴代天皇が行幸し宴遊された平安京最古の史跡「神泉苑」の境内にある「恵方社」は、「大歳神：歳徳神（としとくじん）」を祀り、毎年大晦日の晩に恵方に祠の向きを変える行事を行うことで有名です。
大晦日の晩、東寺真言宗のご住職が恵方社の前で読経し、僧侶や世話人たちによって次の年の恵方に祠の正面を向かせた後、参詣者も方向が変わった祠に参ることができます。
例年、概ね大晦日の22時半頃からこの行事がとり行われ、年越し蕎麦の振る舞い（要整理券）、除夜の鐘突きとともに歳を越します。
なお、日本国内で毎年向きを変える「大歳神」は唯一ここだけに見られる祀り方だと言われています。
また、恵方社の前にある御池は、造営から一度も枯れたことがなく、今日でも美しい水が湧き出ています。

前回は2018年で北向だったが今回2020年は東向だったので恵方社の向き変わっているのを実感出来た。
