★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Atarashiya is my favourite restaurant in Nozawa-onsen. Although their opening hours are short, it is worth going out of your way to climb the hill to get there. Atarashiya has an entire selection of affordable rice bowls that cater to each and everyone’s palette. I would recommend going there at around 4pm for a quieter meal and no queues, but expect a 30 minute wait if you go there at noon.
