★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 先日某学会の巡見で拝観し、感銘を受けました。儒学研究者のあいだなどではかなり有名人物とのことでしたが、一般的にみてまだ知られていない人物かと思います。江戸時代中期にあって法と社会、政治と人について、芦のように徹底的に考えた人物は稀有です。『無刑録』(県指定文化財)は、どのようにすれば社会から刑が減り、無くなるのかを200年以上も前に日本人が自らの知恵を振り絞って書き上げた極めて重要な書物です。西洋から借りてきた言葉を訳しただけであたかもそれが社会の金科玉条であるように感じる昨今ですが、日本人の地に足ついた社会思想の根源にたどり着くには、今芦東山を見直すことの役割は大きいと考えます。
