★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Massive. You can stay there whole day. Many kinds of fish and ocean creatures, like crabs, sea-shells, dolphins and many. Family and dating would be suited. You wouldn't get bored at all. Located by the famous beach, OhArai kaisuiyokujo, is v popular beach during summer. If you can acess there easily, better to buy annual passport.

The amount of things can see there are a lot!
Recommend to come!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Lovely aquarium, perfect for a day trip from Tokyo. It's hugely popular with couples (i.e. good place to bring a date) and families with kids.
You can easily spend 3 hours there if you grab a snack at the food court inside. suggest
If you have the time, I suggest watching the sea lions show twice, once from underwater and lastly from above; it's a delight!
The venue itself is quite large, 5 floors with big tanks, a rest area with bar/restaurant and an external terrace towards the seaside, close to the penguins habitacle.
Definitely check the otters and penguins!
They have also a "touch" tank, where you can actually play with some sea animals (e.g. fish, sea stars, etc.), but right now it is closed off due to the pandemic; you can still see the animals inside the tanks, but can't touch them.
The buses from and to Mito Station are quite rare, but manageable with good scheduling.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This is a fantastic aquarium - not too big; not too small; and rather new.
They have a number of sharks and sunfish in residence along with other exhibits including a nice cascading river exhibit and puffins and otters.
On our recent visit they had a very interesting and tasteful jellyfish exhibit. The dolphin and sea lion show was a clever and fun tie up with One Piece, which was much more interesting that when we were here a year ago.
The food court is also very tasty and affordable. The clam ramen is fantastic and you can never go wrong with the tempura shop either. They have non-seafood restaurants too ?
