The lay out of everything isn't very convenient and a bit confusing. And the "kid" section is a joke. It's right at the tail end of 2 trails and at the entrance to the lifts so the kids are constantly getting moved around to get out of someone's way. If looking for trails to snowboard/ski it's good (the lift ticket is only good for this one section which was disappointing) but not good if looking for a place that kids could sled and play in snow.

Happened to get a year with a metric buttload of snow. Much quieter than other ski towns. Outstanding onsens. 12/10 will return

Follow the bear and you'll be there. Akakura Onsen ski was the perfect place to start our trip. Great place to get the feel of having a board back beneath our feet. Great for beginners an some intermediate runs before moving to one of the steeper resorts

Great green runs, much enjoyed by mum and kids. Easy access to good cafe's.

Not the biggest or steepest maybe, but it's a solid mountain. Decent tree runs and the infrastructure isn't too old.

This place is heaven. Getting the best snow in all of Japan, maybe even all of the world. This is my go to when taking a snow trip away from home. When there is enough snow this place is a big open playground. With plenty of lifts and runs to suit all levels of skill. There is plenty of accommodation choices and not so many restaurants. This mountain is roughly a 6 hour drive away from Tokyo. I would recommend this place to anyone who is looking for an escape to the best snow possible. You need to visit during Jan and Feb for the best possible fresh powder available.

One of the two historical ski slope located at the foot of Mt. Myoko. This gelande tends to be lower in altitude than the Kanko side but has nice runs in the trees and wide groomed slopes. The slopes are located wide along the mountain so there are quite a few flat traverse you need to do in order to get to one side to the other, but each slope tends to be pretty empty even on a Saturday. Nighter runs until 10PM but not included in the one day or the multi-day pass. Get the 1day passport or the nighter pass separately if you want to go long.
