目黒区内には二つの富士塚があり、一つは文化9年(1812)に目切坂上(上目黒1-8)に築かれたもので「元富士」と呼び、後に別所坂上(中目黒2-1)に築かれたもう一つの富士塚を「新富士」と呼びました。
元富士は高さ12mで、石祠(浅間神社)を祀っていましたが、明治11年(1878)に取り壊しとなり、この氷川神社の境内に石祠や富士講の石碑を移しました。
昭和52年(1977)に富士山に見立てた登山道を開き、境内の角を「目黒富士」と呼ぶようになりました。7月1日には山開きの例祭が行われています。

There are two Fujizuka in Meguro Ward, one was built in 1812 in Meguro Sakaue (1-8 Kamimeguro) and is called "Motofuji", and later Bessho Sakaue (Nakameguro). The other Fujizuka built in 2-1) was called "New Fuji".
Former Fuji was 12m high and enshrined a stone shrine (Asama Shrine), but it was demolished in 1878, and the stone shrine and the stone monument of Fujiko were moved to the precincts of this Hikawa Shrine.
In 1977, we opened a mountain trail that resembled Mt. Fuji, and the corner of the precincts came to be called "Meguro Fuji". The annual mountain-opening festival is held on July 1st.
